My road to health and fitness has been a long but great journey. Beginning as a university student I entered the gym with little understanding of diet and exercise but was determined to reach a high level of fitness. A few friends also shared this goal and we decided the best way to achieve our goals was to eat as much as possible and lift heavy weights. Although unaware at the time, we did not know what we were doing. In two short years I went from 165 to 200 pounds, and let’s just say it wasn’t all muscle!
The realization that I was carrying around a bit of extra baggage actually hit me very suddenly. Having trained with the intent to create slabs of muscle, and working hard on this every day through diet and exercise while “closely” monitoring the results, this is what I actually did see in the mirror. Essentially any appearance that made me seem unhealthy could be blamed on the angle, misperception, or lighting. When these images were eliminated,I actually did appear to be in very good shape,In reality,I was not.
